Apple File System (APFS)

Apple File System (APFS)

APFS is a file system that was released by Apple in 2016 and offers some new features when compared to HFS and HFS+. APFS takes advantage of Solid State Drives (SSD) which is a newer form of storage that provides faster speed. Therefore APFS allows for better storage utilization, better performance and less file corruption. APFS also allows for more dynamic encryption to include single-key and multi-key options. Apple computers and iOS devices automatically use the APFS file system. However it must be stated that when formatting drives APFS is not compatible with Windows. Drives used with Windows or Linux systems should be formatted with exFAT or FAT32.
